Why Your Role Matters The Zumba/Dance Fitness Instructor leads fun, energetic, and engaging dance-based cardio classes designed to improve fitness, coordination, and overall well-being. Classes are structured to accommodate multiple skill levels and emphasize movement, rhythm, and motivation. The instructor serves as a positive role model, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that aligns with the YMCA’s mission and community values. How You Make an Impact <ul> <li>Design and lead dance-based fitness classes with choreographed routines suitable for participants of all levels. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Provide modifications to accommodate different abilities and fitness levels. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Maintain participant safety while encouraging proper form, posture, and movement. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Cultivate a fun, energetic, and motivating class atmosphere that encourages member participation and retention. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Prepare and maintain the fitness area, including sound systems, props, and other equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Promote YMCA programs, events, and wellness initiatives to class participants. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Complete required attendance, incident reports, or other documentation. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and fitness training to stay current on dance fitness trends. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Become an ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by sharing the story of who we are as an organization and brand. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Complete other duties as assigned. </li> </ul> What You Bring to the Y <ul> <li>Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>High school diploma, GED or equivalent </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Certified Zumba Instructor or equivalent dance fitness certification. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Proven experience leading high-energy, music-driven fitness classes. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of choreography, rhythm, and safe movement techniques. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Must have beginner-level fitness skills, including 0–1 year of previous fitness/teaching experience, and must audition for Health & Wellness Director/Coordinator before teaching. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Current First Aid/ CPR Certifications preferred (must be obtained within 60 days of employment. </li> <li>Must be available to teach Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-10:45am</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Growth Mindset: Learn and improve to better serve members and the mission. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Team Player: Work collaboratively with others and support a positive team environment. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Communicates Effectively: Listen actively and communicate clearly with members and peers. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Customer Focused: Anticipates needs and ensures quality, member-centered service. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Fosters Belonging: Ensure everyone feels welcomed, respected, and included. </li> </ul>
